Exploring the Realm of Altered Books

Evidently school holidays put me into some sort of time warp......because I thought I had a  good solid two weeks before the show and then my Mom gave me the wake up call, not two weeks; one week from Friday oh !@$$%!* , I mean, "Oh WOW"!  Anyway, that drasticlly changed my work plans for the week!  I've stepped up the altered books to front and center (at least for the first half of the week).  But since I've been a "bad blogger" lately and not posted since Saturday, I thought I'd feature some artists whose altered work I admire on Etsy......

"Summer Escape" by Chrys Tal of Eclectic Soul

"Find Your Way" by IM Girl

"deComposition no3" by Kenneth Rougeau of Sychonicity 313

Book 5 by Daniel Lai

"Cassandra" by Glimmering Prize

And there you have it, just a handful of artists reveling in the venue of mixed media.  I hope they inspire you as they do me!  Now, I must get on to waking children, making breakfasts and getting all on their way to school so I'll have a few hours of altering my own books......I'll try to check back in soon- need to post new pictures of the garden in all it's Spring glory and then of course current WIP's...
Soon,
Stephanie

Stephanie, I'm going to try to post again. Blogger was disagreeable. I had said something to the effect that I always enjoy coming to your posts whether or not you have work shown. I love the idea that you honor other artists. Good luck on the show and your garden..tough choice to make as to whether to garden or work in studio.

These are stunning examples of altered books. I can see where they would inspire you. They sure have inspired me. I couldn't even pick out a favorite. I didn't even know these artists existed until now. Thanks for finding them for me.

wonderful feature!! i love looking at altered books!! i just wish i could make myself do it ... i have this ... i dunno ... reservation i think, my guess it's from my dad, that books should be treasured. it was a long time ago when i was a kid i think, i threw a tantrum and swiped all of my dad's books off the table. my goodness, i got a caning ... and was then told that books are supposed to be revered and loved becos it's filled with the life's work of the author and his knowledge ... which he is now willing to share with us. i think that stayed with me ... and altho i'm itching to do an altered book ... i just can't UGH!!!!

Thank you for finding these treasures and sharing them, Stephanie! They are all so inspiring. Every time I see an altered book, I want to try it myself but so far have not attempted it. One of these days...
