Weekly Challenge- "Summer- Fun & Relaxation"

my nephew Cooper and his Fireflies

The challenge this week at Inspiration Avenue was Summer- Fun and relaxation.  I really wanted to get some snaps of me and my son Garrett at Six Flags, our local amusement park.  But I was worried about the water rides ruining my already ailing camera, so I didn't even try.  But there are other things that mean summer fun to me- just to name a few off the top of my head: swimming, going to the Renaissance Festival, backyard cookouts, eating the first tomato (just a couple of weeks now:)) and catching Lightning Bugs- also known as Fireflies.  My own kids are way too "sophisticated" to catch Lightning Bugs anymore- I can't wait till they "grow back down" a bit so they'll enjoy it once again........but in the meantime, my nephews are more than happy to oblige:)

Let the hunt begin......

We can call him "George"

Be sure to stop by Inspiration Avenue this Sunday to see everyone else's submissions for Summer fun!
Cheers,
Stephanie

Your post today really does conjur up the feel of summer. I can almost taste that first tomato now. The lightning bugs bring back memories too. I always try to duplicate that look in my garden area by using those tiny blinking lights. They last for awhile, just like the bugs themselves, and then they fade away and I must buy new lights. (weather, time?)

Okay ... yep ... I want to live in your garden! :) When I first moved to NC, someone told me that summer means lightning bugs. I had never seen them and the first night that they came out was magic. Now, whenever we see the first fire flies ... we get excited and yell "SUMMER".

Wonderful entry, Steph!

I was thinking about lightning bugs for the challenge! But didn't have a clue how to portray them. They don't appear here until July (I have no idea why) but then you see them sparkling every night til they die off at the end of summer. Great entry!

First off-I love the phrase "grow back down" for the kids! I have two of my own that need to do just that ;) And I love the mention of the Renaissance festival-we used to go when we lived in AZ and LOVED IT. Very nice walk down summertime lane.

I've always loved fireflies! We live in a forest now and when the sun goes down our woods light up and looks oh so very fairy fae!

Wonderful examples of summer fun. We had fireflies last year like you wouldn't believe. Really lit up the night. Haven't seen a single one this year.

Tomatoes? My plants barely have those cute little yellow flowers on them.

These are great photos - Cooper looks very intent in that first one! I've never seen a real firefly - I'm very impressed! I love all the wonderful things about summer you've listed :)

Great memories! I love doing all those things as well. I have not seen a firefly in awhile in our yard. Need to go out in country where it is really dark and more bugs. hehe. Good thing you have your nephew. Kids grow up so fast.

Fireflies abound here. I have been enjoying their twinkle lights at night in my backyard. So fun to reminisce about those bygone days when we did just what your nephew was doing here. Trying to find the perfect jar and filling it with grass and twigs to make a happy home for the fireflies we were about to catch and admire. What fun!
