Eeeeee! It's Paint Party Friday again, and I'm SO jazzed! I've had a blast meeting people each week and discovering some really amazing (new to me) art! For this week, I've been working on my Sketchbook for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Sketchbooks- my new and first round robin. I felt really behind in beginning because I had a really hard time finding the right book to use. Who would have thought it'd be so hard? But, we have very specific requirements to meet, so it had to; have 60+ pages (we each get 4 to work with) and had to accept multi media. The first one I got was wonderful for mixed media with really heavy duty watercolor paper- but, alas, it only had 50 pages.....the second I got online from Dick Blick and they promised that it was great for mixed media, well the paper was about the thickness of printer paper, so, no go. On my third try, I FINALLY found a book at Sam Flaxx that actually met both requirements, so on Monday, I was ready to go!!!
Luckily during my trials of finding a book to work with, my brain was going overdrive with ideas for the cover, sign in and "all about me" pages. You guys saw the beginning of the "me" spread with my self portrait last week.
For the cover, I turned to one of my favorite sources of inspiration; Gustav Klimt
And while I'm not quite done with the sign in pages, I have enough to show. I love interactive art, I'll probably do at least couple of pop ups in the sister's books as they come to me. In the meantime, my sign in page consists of 12 squares that flip up for the ladies to write their names, where they live and which month they did a spread for.
So that's my Paint Party Friday entry for the week- now I'm off to PARRTTAY! Hope to see you there :D

What a wonderful and fun project round robin. I've been in doll round robins, but this one seems right up my alley even more. Love what you did here as I love Klimt. Happy PPF.
The cover is PERFECT! Very Klimt-esque. Your sign-in pages are a stroke of genius. Just painting each square looks like fun. Oh, I love the idea of this project! I hope you'll keep us updated as you work through yours.

This is a wonderful sketchbook. Love your cover and very clever sign in pages. This sounds like a very fun round robin collaboration and should give you all wonderful memories for a long time to come.
That's just so cool Steph - love it!!
I know what you mean about getting the right paper. One day I'll find a book with the paper I want then go out and buy 100 of them!
They are very original work I like, I also love Klimt, I was in Vienna and saw "The Kiss" is a magic painting. Greetings
What a beautiful start to your traveling sketchbook - it sounds like such a fun project!

The cover is fantastic! I love the angels. What a neat idea to have a sketchbook that you get to keep with works from various artists. :)
Love the little face squares for the sign in pages! I hope you'll be showing us your work in these sketchbooks as they come to you. I think they will be wonderful!
If that cover is a preview of what's to come I'll be back. It's amazing! Great job on the chicas...love the flow in this painting!

OOOh, so nice, can't wait to see it up close. and I love your idea of the sign in page, I was just going to leave it plain,,, now I need to think of something!
Oh, and I'm afraid I'm using the sketchbook you didn't like. I'm not happy with it either, from dick blick, but I started and it didn't do too bad for the watercolors, it just wrinkled a bit, but I hope it takes the other paints OK.
I think that's a great project. Love your pages of the travelling sketchbook. I just got back a mini book that had been out over a year. It was awesome to see it back. Fun!
Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE this, what a great idea to have flip open pages for each of the gals info. Your gong to have some very happy swappers !!

Stephanie, I love your cover. Those colors are so beautiful. The women look so peaceful as they float along - they dream, being comfortably and safely carried by the water? Each one separate and still together.
Wonderful work!

It's a fab idea, interactive art. I'd love to take part in something like this (though with everything I'd like to do I need about 12 more hours in the day!) x
Looking so forward to seeing your book in person! I have my pages done but haven't had time to post and am incredibly late visiting from PPF!
