Paint Party Friday- July 29, 2011

Backgrounds seem to be my nemesis....or something, because, they're almost always the hardest part of every painting for me!  Anyway, this background has been numerous shades of green, and then blues and then browns and then finally ending with a mixture of all of the above- the blues and turquoises really don't show up well here- but enough to get an idea.  And, I'm mostly happy with this.  I like the border, even tho' the final effect wasn't exactly what I had in mind- I did want to play with softer colors and maybe because they're a little different from my usual color palette this seems so different to me?  I really don't know- I do know I was happy to finish and am ever so ready to move on to something else!
Be sure to stop by at Paint Party Friday- either to check in your own work or just to check everyone else out- it's always a blast!
Happy Friday (a day early ;))
Stephanie

I really like this Stephanie!!!! I really love the border effect it's like the painting is framed but it's also outside the frame, very clever! I also enjoyed looking at pictures of your art classes on the side of your page. I do art with my two boys and they love it!! They are very creative! :0)

I love backgrounds in mixed media art. I have more problems with backgrounds in watercolors. This is really beautifully made. The pale borders are really gorgeous.

I've really been enjoying the butterflies this summer. I don't see to many of them where I live, but I do so enjoy it when I do, because it reminds me of home. My mom has a mimosa tree in her backyard and the whole thing is covered in butterflies so that the tree looks like it is in constant gentle motion!

This is just beautiful. I so love butterflies and this year there seems to be an abundance of butterflies and dragonflies. I love your soft colors and your background, fantastic job! :-)

I think your background turned out beautifully! (greens and blues are my favorite color combo) I really like how the border is more subtle than the rest of the painting. Your butterfly and flowers are gorgeous!

I'm SO impressed with this painting, possibly because of the frame you created. So different and unique. Ive never seen anything like it before. Really love the outcome and final piece.

I know exactly what you mean about backgrounds - I never know what to put so usually when I do portraits I don't put anything! This is lovely though and certainly doesn't look like its been causing you problems - I really like the effect of the frame in paler shades and I think it works well.

I really like the effect of the lighter frame on this painting. It gives it an extra dimension that's very cool.

I think the subtle shading of the outer edge of the picture just enhances the inner focus of the subject. Very well done!
