Paint Party Friday- August 19, 2011

Yay, I'm back on a roll; haven't missed a PPF since getting back from vacation!  It's really good for me to have weekly challenges like PPF and Inspiration Avenue- I'm one of those people who NEED deadlines!  So here's my WIP for this week's challenge at IA- the theme was "Icy" and I'm calling it "Beginning to Thaw"....
I'm hoping to get the impression of ice crystals in her eyelashes, but don't know if I can pull it off or if it would be one thing to much and mess it up!
Update: .I ended up not doing anything else to this- I can't decide if it's finished or not, so I'm going to leave it for a few days until I decide.  And I didn't say before that the inspiration behind this was my quitting smoking and how the process feels- "Preparing to Thaw" represents the good things that come after the hard part.

And  here's what I ended up doing to finish my August page for my Creative Sistah; Priti Lisa:
Thanks for all the suggestions; and I'm really happy with how it turned out.  Now that sketchbooks have had several months of travel; they're getting even  more and more beautiful I am so loving this project and thanks again for ya'lls input!  Be sure to check out Inspiration Avenue and  Paint Party Friday to see what everyone else has been working on this week, it's always an incredibly inspiring trip!
Have a great day,
Stephanie

I love this - serene, cool, cleverly done... I wanted mine to have much more of a misty effect but then it somehow didn't quite turn out that way! I was happy with the end result. I can always play in PhotoShop to give her a filtered through the mist look!

The finished sketchbook page looks beautiful - I'm so glad you added the writing in white to the solid color block. It turned out gorgeous.
The icy lady who is thawing (what a great idea!) is lovely and I do like the idea of the icycles in her eyelashes. Might a tiny little bit of glitter work for that? I understand your fear of messing up, I have it all the time. I do it anyway, just for the learning experience (of course I'm mad at myself if it doesn't work out! But if you don't try you'll never know.)

Yup, that's great! Your journal page turned out lovely. The ice painting looks very intriguing to me. Is that a figure I spy in the background? Can't wait to see it finished!

What a beautiful piece "beginning to thaw" is so far! I love the dancer in the background.

Your page for Lisa turned out fabulously!!

What a great start! Love the faint dancer in the background and the composition is great - showing only part of her face keeps it mysterious and intriguing!

I absolutely love the use of the white space in the journal page. It's got that geometric element, off set by the flow of the words and the orange (sun? flower? hair? love that it could be any of those things)

The Beginning to Thaw painting is lovely and ethereal

Love your Icy girl, the crystals would be cool. I'm so impressed you manage to do each theme, I can never seem to do my painting to fit the theme, well not very often anyway, I need to paint what I feel like painting at the time I guess!

I love how these challenges can be interpreted so many ways! When I look at "Beginning to Thaw" my first impression was of a skater or dancer learning to be free of inhibitions. Very beautiful!

Your icy inspired lady is mesmerising! So magical, dreamy & story inspiring. Love her!!

Your sketchbook page turned out wonderful. And congrats on giving up smoking! Its a hard struggle but worth it.

I know I'm late getting here, but I guess you read I've been offline most of the week with a house guest. Your lovely lady is so beautiful. I like the title, too. It seems to put the entire painting in perspective.

I also like how you finished off your August page. The journalling/quote actually finished the piece nicely and added to the final page.

Steph, love your icy lady! I also wanted to offer my support to quit smoking. I did it many years ago and I was a serious, serious heavy smoker. I'm thankful every day - I have a couple of relatives suffering from smoking-related illnesses and it's hard to watch. Hang in there ....

Two beautiful paintings!!! I love the first one just as it is. And your second one is great!!!

This is great, the circles of life around her, the coloring and the expression on her face, the dancer adds another dimension, beautiful.

She's lovely! Defitely icy, yet too soft and pretty to be completely frozen - I'm glad she's starting to thaw!

And I love how your August page turned out - the text looks fab!

PS A huge well done on quitting smoking, that's great! x

I love your "beginning to thaw" girl, you can almost see her coming to life. Maybe you could do another one of her when she is thawed and full of color ...maybe an "awakening". I would love to see her
"thawed" !

Hearts!
