I got Brandy's beautiful sketchbook this week; just in time to start something for Paint Party Friday! I was so inspired by my friend Jaime's leaf prints a couple weeks ago, I knew I wanted to do something similar for my background so yesterday, I had a great time painting and printing! Then I sketched in a mask (not sure why I wanted to do a mask, but the muse insisted, and who am I to ignore her?) So, this is what I have so far...To finish it; I'm going to add a little more veining and Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold can stay..."
At first I was worried that it would be too "Halloweeny" but I decided to paint it anyway and see where it from there- I knew if I had to, I could save it for my October pages, but I'm really happy with it as a September piece. What do you think? Should I keep it for September or save it for October?
Be sure to stop by Paint Party Friday- that's where I'll be all weekend, enjoying a gorgeous variety of artists and their art!

You're going down a similar theme to me this week - I'm laying down autumn colours for my IA piece too. The 'mask' is mysterious and seductive at the same time. Magic is weaving its way into this :)
LOVELY image and great choice of poem. Robert Frost is a fave.
what a beautiful mask, and lovely fall background.
Lovely and luminous painting!
Happy PPF!

I'm crazy about this piece. I can see why you added the mask. It really gives off a mysterious and magical feel to the painting. I think this is perfect for September, but of course I love all those leaves in the background.
Either month is going to be beautiful, looks like made with sugar. Very nice work
It's beautiful! It isn't very halloweeny to me. It's more autumn fae, I think... almost whimsical... It's great for September!
Wonderfully beautiful Stephanie..a mask fanatic myself..gorgeous work. I love the whispy-ness and gracelfulness it carries..lovely!

Oh, this is stunning and not too Halloweeny at all!!!
gorgeous depth in those leaf prints. your colors are so rich and yummy. love the way the mask is made of leaves. Works well for September - very autumn/harvest kind of feel.
Amazed. Your talents are broad, deeply broad.

Love this color! It has such a lovely autumn feel to it.
This is just breathtakingly beautiful. It's not Halloweeny at all, unless you start adding black.
No, just perfectly gorgeous, and when you add the Robert Frost poem? Perfection.
Very Septembery. Gorgeous
oooooo,Very nice. And in my favorite colors too. It looks so soft.
I was loving the colors and mask, and then you said you're adding 'Nothing Gold Can Stay'... one of my FAVORITE poems ~ so glad I stopped by... gorgeous work!
what a beautiful painting for your journal! Something so beautiful is good to use asap and if you feel like it's a good use for Sept then go for it! I love the colors and autumn and the mask just adds the quality to it..:) ~Elisa Choi from harmonythoughts
I would save it for October. It is lovely. Please share it with us when it is complete. Happy PPF!
Beautiful work in progress.....Looks lovely already and with the poem incorporated....perfect! My daughter's favourite poem she discovered from the book "The Outsiders". One of my fav poets! Very lovely choices...in theme, colour and words!!!
LOL! Stephanie, we sure seem to be thinking alike for some of these pages. Same quote (August's Crown) and using Jaime's leaf print idea was what I was planning for the September spread (whenever that sketchbook arrives).
I love this - it is so gorgeous and the mask ethereal and not hallowe'eny at all. Oddly in some ways it strikes me as very Septembery - start of a new (school) year - putting on a new face (and sometimes that new face for school IS a mask).
Lucky Brandy!
Oooh that is gorgeous! i think it goes well for both months! Happy PPF!
Such a treat to see WIP work from other PPFer! Thank you for sharing.
I think it's a wonderful September piece. No need to save it for October.
Lovely! I don't think it's too Halloweeny...it has a softness about it, like the leaves are floating about.
